Kane County Democratic Women (KCDW) held our May 7, 2025 meeting last night to a packed room at the Oak Street Restaurant in North Aurora. Theresa Barreiro, Kane County Circuit Clerk was our guest speaker.
Barreiro provided an overview for those unfamiliar with the functions of the Circuit Clerk’s office. She said her office maintains and keeps all Kane County court records. The office is also responsible for a number of administrative, financial and public service related duties. She touched briefly about the cost-cutting measures being debated by the Kane County Board as they grapple with a budget shortfall. For her department, the impending shortfall means a reduction in staff and the likelihood of court and case load delays.
There was discussion among members about events taking place, and how to take actionable steps in the community. Voices of dissent and discontent are being raised to the slash and burn policies of the Trump Administration to a number of federal programs. Our communities are outraged about how the undocumented and immigrant people are being rounded up and incarcerated with no legal recourse or due process before being deported. The Trump Administration is accountable to the citizens of the United States, and must abide by the Due Process Clause found in both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to all individuals not just citizens.
